Danielle McLaughlin, a 28-year-old woman with a dual Irish
and English citizenship, was found dead in Goa, in India, on Tuesday morning.
She was visiting Goa with a friend to celebrate the Spring festival of Holi
when she was brutally murdered. Her body was discovered in a pool of blood,
naked and with extensive injuries to the head, by a farmer in a field just a
few miles away from a party she was attending in the evening of her death.
Vikat Bhagat, a petty
thief in his early 20s, was reportedly seen with Danielle in a bar on Monday
and he also confessed to murdering her. He currently remains in custody. On Wednesday evening, locals
in Goa held a vigil at the spot where Danielle's body was found. They placed a
big green banner out on the ground that says "Justice for Danielle".
Photos, candles and flowers have
also been laid out in her memory. Her mum has spoken out during this
hard time, showing how heartbroken she is at her eldest daughter’s death and
thanking everyone for their support.
