How many cases of ADHD are out there?

Research has shown that children diagnosed with ADHD may not all actually have the condition. Researcher Dr Mu-Hong Chen claims that the majority of diagnosed children are born in August, making them the youngest in their year. He says they are probably just under-developed and are receiving and taking medication when they don’t really need to.

In an interview with the head researcher, he said “Our findings emphasise the importance of considering the age of a child within a grade when diagnosing ADHD and prescribing medication to treat ADHD."
An interview with the local head of health was taken and when asked what she thought about this she, Mrs Rens, had this to say:

“To test if a child actually hasthe ADHD condition, you must give them medication and after a month see if it has worn off - or if they are the same.” This shows that although the study is true, it is possible to find out if they do have ADHD.
