Adam Johnson's girlfriend has left him after the ex-England star admitted to being involved in sexual activity with a minor. Many people had expressed concern as to why he was allowed to continue playing for Sunderland during the ongoing trial. The chief executive of the club has now resigned due to her wrongly made decision and lack of judgement by allowing him to play. Margaret Byrne would have sacked had she not quit, and the football club have since released a statement to the family of the victim. "Throughout this deeply regretful situation, we recognise that one devoted young fan and her family have been very badly let down, first and formost by Mr Johnson and his despicable actions but also by the club they support. We are so very sorry about this." Johnson was found guilty of the accusations and now awaits his sentence.
